The locksmith profession was established 4000 years ago in ancient Egypt and is considered one of the most traditional professions. In the past locksmithing and blacksmithing went hand in hand. To begin with, locks were built and repaired with our own handmade parts. Unfortunately, blacksmiths have become a trade of the past and as locksmiths we have had to move with the times.

Technology has had a huge impact on the industry and locksmiths have had to master numerous roles in order to keep up with the changing demands of our new world. Qualified Locksmiths of today are not only experts in locks and keys but are masters of the security industry. Keeping people, homes and cars safe.

A locksmith does a whole lot more than just change locks or cut keys. Security demands have escalated and so has our profession. Constantly growing and improving with the development of technology, making sure we have the latest equipment and education on the newest advancements and changes in the industry.

Computers are not going anywhere, and electronic locks are fast becoming a part of our everyday lives. Electronic access control now plays an important role in our industry.

Keyless entry is broadly used in the automotive industry where an electric lock controls access to a vehicle without requiring any physical contact. You will need an experienced, qualified locksmith if a motorist loses or damages their remote control or has locked their remote in the car. They are beneficial but tough to replace and a qualified locksmith would have to have had extensive training to understand the workings of the automotive mechanisms and new technology. Keyless entry has removed the necessity for traditional keys or locking mechanisms as ease of access has become a priority.

Smart locks are now available, and people can use their digital devices to lock and unlock doors. It is the next step in advanced locking technology. When an owner of a business or home is in close proximity the mobile device will send a signal to the lock sensors to open the lock. Smart locks depend on Bluetooth and does not require a key.

Digital locks require a code that can be shared with people who require access to a home, room or building. Lock codes can be changed easily removing the need for a physical key.

Digital door locks with fingerprint sensors is another advancement. Recognizing a pre-authorized fingerprint with a sensory pad unlocks the door. No key necessary.
